Five Concise Ways of Sabotaging Your Work from Home Business

While there are copious volumes written about the various steps a person can take to ensure that her or his work from home business will take off and become successful, it is interesting to note that not much is said about the common mistakes so many would be entrepreneurs so routinely make.

Here are five concise ways of sabotaging your work from home business without even trying too hard!
1. Allow non-clients to take up work time during business hours by doing favors, and you can be sure that you will have precious little time left to get your work done. As a matter of fact, you may find yourself turning away business simply because you are picking up a spouse’s dry cleaning, a friend’s child from school, a dog from the vet, or your mother in law from the dentist. While each of these activities are important and have a valid place in your schedule, consider that you most likely would not be asked to perform these duties if it were understand that you are actually doing work.
2. Permit clients to breach the boundaries you set and instead allow after hour calls, the client visit, and emergency emails to take up your personal time. Before long, you will find that you begin to suffer from serious burnout. Continue on this path long enough and you will long for the predictable hours of the nine to five jobs you may have had in the past.
3. Fail to deliver on the deadlines given to you. This is a big one for freelance artists but pertains pretty much to anyone who makes a commitment to complete a task in a certain amount of time. While one or two failures to meet a deadline might be forgiven, a consistent display of inability to make do with the time given will lead to a loss of work and most likely the demise of your business.
4. Fail to commit to your business wholeheartedly, and most likely you will be looking at a business failure that is only a matter or when, not if. After all, much like a relationship, you are required to spend adequate time and efforts building it, tending to it, and making it grow.
5. Last but not least in the countdown of the five concise ways of sabotaging your work from home business is the notion of over-diversification. As hard as it may be to believe, but being involved in too many ventures will lead to your becoming a Jack of all trades but master of none. The goal is to find an aspect of the business at which you excel and put everyone else to shame. If you wish to branch out later one – once you have made a name for yourself – the opportunity will arise, yet in the beginning phase of your business this is a dangerous proposition. It will lead to clients who are not sure they can trust you with their situations, and this in turn will cost you a lot of word of mouth advertising.
